Samhain Ritual – A Community Event at Bread & Puppet

Samhain Ritual – A Community Event hosted by Friends of Bread & Puppet 11/01/20 – 5pm

Come join us for a Samhain (from Gaelick pronounced  sow-wen) ritual to remember the dead and thank the sleeping fields, forests, and gardens, at Bread and Puppet on Sunday Nov 1 at 5 pm. We will dress like death, sing to and process to the Pine Forest,  where we will have a Dance of Death, sing songs about Death, and hold a silent supper. In Celtic tradition, a silent supper is held to honor the dead, and welcome them to the table.  The event will include a short and rare performance by the NEK’s own pagan folk metal band, Mokosh.

This is a participatory event, not a performance. Wear black or white. Bring offerings for the dead—food, drink, flowers, etc.   Wear your face mask, and keep your distance.  Bring an instrument, if you like.  Fiddles, hurdy gurdies and music boxes especially welcome.

5 pm: meet in the backyard at Bread and Puppet to learn a few songs

5:30 pm: process to the gardens and pine forest

6:30 pm: silent supper, dance of death, offerings, songs, bonfire.

Tickets are required to attend this event.  For tickets and info visit our Ticketing section. Thanks!
