Come celebrate the change of color in the North East Kingdom with our 13th Annual Political Leaf Peeping event. Bread and Puppeteers of past and present will regale you with Cantastoria, hand puppet adventures, fiddle tunes and Crankies. We will put bread in your belly, garlic on your tongue, fresh mint in your water. Then we will present The Public Accesses Center For The Obvious Presents: The Situation, in the Paper Mache Cathedral. A Museum tour will be given on at 1:oo pm. Be sure to dress warmly! The Museum and Cathedral are not heated!
At 5:00pm, we will screen “I Am In Here,” a film by Mark Utter and Emily Anderson. Mark Utter and Emily Anderson have been working together as a collaborative team for 8 years. Mark is the creative mind behind “I am in here.” a short film that gives an entertainingly illustrative glimpse of Mark’s experience living with a disability that affects his ability to communicate. Emily is his communication partner and, also, the film’s producer. The screening is followed by a Q and A that is facilitated by Mark using “Supported Typing.”
The Living Theatre will perform No Place To Hide in our Paper Mache’ Cathedral at 7:30.
At a time when surveillance is a household topic, The Living Theatre’s new production could not be more current. No Place to Hide asks about the how, why, and what of hiding, and takes the audience on a journey through the untold history of New York. Challenging political, philosophical, and moral spheres of concealment, the play questions the boundaries between the private and the public while blurring our sense of intimacy.
Bread & Puppet is extending its summer program into the fall, with a series of shows every Sunday afternoon at 3pm. Bread & Aioli will be served and the guided Museum Tour will be offered at 2pm, prior to the show. The final Sunday, September 28th will be our special “Political Leaf Peeping” event which includes a program of special guest performers in addition to the B & P show.

As part of the celebration of B & P’s 50th Anniversary year, the theater presents a revival performance of this historic 1971 Bread and Puppet show with members of the original cast from that time. Now, 42 years after the first performance, many of the original performers – Sue Bettman, Mark Dannenhauer, Marc Estrin, and Avram Patt – take part in the effort. B & P Press Printshop Manager, Lila Winstead, with community help, re-printed the many costumes and banners from the original masonite cuts.
