This is a tentative and continually revised list of events we are planning in celebration of Bread and Puppet’s 50th Anniversary year. The listings will be updated as more of the planning gets firmed up. 14 September, 2013: Boston College, Boston, MA, 50 Years Bread & Puppet: A Symposium at Boston College

 

2nd November  – 30th November, 2013: PRINTED MATTER BOOKSTORE, NEW YORK,  NOTHING IS NOT READY: Artists’ Books and Pamphlets by Peter Schumann and the Bread and Puppet Press 1963 – 2013. Curated by Max Schumann. Opening Reception Saturday, November 2nd, 5 – 7 pm, with fiddle lecture by Peter Schumann. Printed Matter, 195 10th Ave., NY, NY 10011. Hours: Mondays thru Weds and Saturdays from 11am-7pm. 14 November, 2013 – March 2014 :

QUEENS MUSEUM, NY

The Queens Museum presents: Peter Schumann: The Shatterer, the first solo museum exhibition of Bread and Puppet founder and director Peter Schumann, will open in Fall 2013 at the Queens Museum as part of the first season in its newly expanded galleries. On view from November 9th, 2013–March 2014. Curated by Jonathan Berger and organized for the Queens Museum by Larissa Harris. Opening Reception Monday, November 11th from 6:00-8:00 pm, with fiddle lecture performed by Peter Schumann in the exhibition’s “Paper Mache Chapel.” Queens Museum, Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Queens, NY 11368. 2nd September, 2014 – 14th December,  2014:  Benton Museum, University of Connecticut, Black and White with a Shatterer of Worlds Chapel. This exhibition will include performances, symposia, and workshops–stay tuned for more information!

Sunday 9th June, 2013  7pm: Goddard College, The Birdcatcher in Hell, a revival of one of the theater’s significant shows of the 1970’s

 

SUNDAY AFTERNOONS September 8th to September 22nd: Birdcatcher in Hell, 2pm: Bread & Puppet Farm, Glover, VT, Birdcatcher in Hell,  revival performances of this historic Bread and Puppet show from the 1970’s with members of the original cast from that time

50th Anniversary Summer on Bread & Puppet farm:

July 7th – August 25th : Every Sunday afternoon performances of The Total This and That Deathlife Circus in Two Parts: Part 1–This, and Part Two–That

 

July 5th – Aug 23rd : Every Friday evening in July performances of Zebra, a new show to be invented this spring, and in August performances of Shatterer of Worlds Chapel with Naturalization Services for Applicants Requesting Citizenship in the Shattered World, in the papermache cathedral

Tuesday, November 19th, 7:30pm:

Anthology Film Archives, New York, NY

Bread & Puppet Theater at 50 Film Program. Curated by Adam Schutzman. A program including experimental films by Deedee Halleck & George Griffin, Lowell Naeve, and Jules Rabin which feature Bread & Puppet, along with the premiere of a number of recently unearthed archival films from the early days of the theater in NYC and beyond. The event will include live commentary by Peter Schumann, short skits performed by Bread & Puppet, and a brass band to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the theater company.
