The Birdcatcher in Hell
This film documents a revival of The Birdcatcher in Hell , a Bread and Puppet show that was originally created and performed in 1971 in response to President Richard Nixon giving Lt. William Caulley a full pardon after Calley was courtmartialed for the 1968 My Lai Massacre. The show is structured around a Japanese kyogen- the comic interlude between acts of classical Noh drama.
Filmed and produced by Sue Bettman in May 2014 at the Flynn Center in Burlington, VT. The show featured four members of the first company to perform this play, plus a troupe of new performers.
